While the Initiative is not entirely clear on what happened to create the debris within sector A1-C, where some of that debris went was more than clear after sending probes towards A1-C1. There are a number of impact craters of varying sizes that dot the surface of the planet, which has led the Initiative to believe that the planet's mantle was stripped away almost entirely by the debris crashing into A1-C1's surface.
A1-C1 certainly doesn't have the capability to sustain life, but exploration is possible, albeit hazardous with the thin atmosphere, nearby star and asteroid impacts.
